Spring shows up every year, whether you’re ready or not. And while the shift is automatic, the growth that tags along with Spring is not. Everything outside begins to bloom and renew, yet many of us are still holding on to habits, mindsets, and situations we already know we’ve outgrown. And if we’re being honest, some of us have been saying “this is just a season” for a little too long.
Now let’s be honest about Spring. I love Spring. The flowers that begin to bloom, the birds that come back to serenade us every morning, longer days of sunlight… In fact, it’s my second favorite season, with Autumn being #1.
But let’s not romanticize it too much, because while the evidence of its arrival is beautiful, it’s also annoying. Especially if you live in a city that gets hit with the yellow and green pollen.
Beautiful? Yes! Inconvenient? Also, Yes!
Spring is messy, irritating, and a little uncomfortable. And that’s exactly how real growth feels. But I’ll be honest, growth isn’t just about starting something new. Everybody loves a fresh start. New goals, new routines, new energy… new YOU! But real growth? It’s not always about what you add. It’s about what you finally decide you’re done tolerating.
And here is the thing I feel a lot of people miss and I say this because I have even missed it too: you can’t pray for growth and avoid the stretch. “Stretch” was actually my word of the year a couple of years ago…. and let me tell you, I didn’t fully understand what I was asking for.
At some point, growth requires a decision. Not a vibe. Not a vision board. But a decision.
Growth requires you to be inconvenienced and will disrupt your routine with no apologies. It challenges your confidence and will demand that you show up differently before you feel fully ready. And that part? That’s where most people hesitate. Ask me how I know.
But you can’t ask for expansion and stay in the same patterns, stuck in the same place. That’s not growth. That’s comfort dressed up as intention.
Spring doesn’t arrive clean and polished, growth doesn’t either.
And this is the reality: some things just have to go! Spring cleaning isn’t just for closets or garages. It’s for your life and your thinking. And no, everything doesn’t get to come with you into your next season.
Let go of the excuses. Let go of the overthinking. Let go of the environments that keep you small. Because growth has standards. And sometimes the very thing you’re holding onto is the reason you feel stuck.
And let’s take it a step further: spring cleaning applies to how you lead, too. If you’re leading a team, a business, or even just your own next level, this part matters. You can’t build a strong organization on unclear expectations, inconsistent decisions, and a “we’ll fix it later” attitude. That mindset isn’t anything but avoidance, disguised as flexibility.
Growth in leadership looks like:
Because your organization will only grow to the level of your clarity.
So now, let’s talk about timing because some of you are waiting for the “right time.” I know because I was you. Sometimes, I still am.
You’re waiting for when things slow down or when you feel prepared…. When everything makes perfect sense. Please, let me save you some time. THERE IS NO PERFECT TIME TO GROW. There is only the moment you decide you’re no longer staying the same.
And so, I leave you with my final thought: Spring never asks permission to show up. It just does (with its yucky pollen and all!). And maybe that’s the energy to carry into this next season. Not hesitant or halfway. No, “I’ll get to it later.”
But fully aligned with what you already know needs to happen, because at this point, it’s not about whether you’re capable. It’s about whether you’re ready to move like you are!
Until next time,
Lead with intention. Operate in excellence. And always stay FINE!
